Meta Platforms explores integration of generative AI model with Apple Inc’s AI system

23rd June 2024 – (Hong Kong) Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook, has reportedly engaged in discussions with Apple Inc to incorporate Meta’s generative AI model into Apple’s recently unveiled AI system for iPhones, according to sources cited by The Wall Street Journal. Alongside Google, AI startups Anthropic and Perplexity have also been in talks with Apple to introduce their generative AI technology to Apple Intelligence.

At the time of reporting, Apple, Meta, Perplexity, and Anthropic had not responded to requests for comment outside of business hours.

While the discussions are still ongoing and may not reach a final agreement, partnering with Apple would offer AI companies an opportunity to expand the distribution of their products. The financial implications of any potential deal remain uncertain. However, the talks have revolved around AI companies selling premium subscriptions to their services through Apple Intelligence, as stated in the report.

Apple recently unveiled its highly anticipated AI strategy, announcing the integration of new Apple Intelligence technology across its suite of applications, including Siri. Additionally, the company plans to introduce the Microsoft-backed OpenAI chatbot, ChatGPT, to its devices.
