Maxim’s Palace, Simplylife cafe and Starbucks vandalised by rioters in Sha Tin and Kowloon Tong


10th November 2019 – (Hong Kong) Protesters gathered at various shopping malls in Tsuen Wan, Sha Tin, Kowloon Tong, Hang Hau, Central and Causeway Bay today to coincide with the Monday strike tomorrow. At around 2pm today, many eateries owned by Maxim’s Catering were damaged and destroyed. Rioters stormed into Maxim’s Palace at near Sha Tin Town Hall at 3pm to ransack the restaurant. Diners had to leave after they flipped tables and shattered glass panels. A female customer was terrified and burst into tears while being consoled by her husband.

They also spray-painted words i.e. ‘Maxim is garbage’ on walls. Simplylife cafe at Festival Wall was also spray painted by rioters. The staff suspended business operation immediately. Starbucks, Senryo and EXP owned by Maxim’s Catering at Festival Walk closed for business moments later.

After damaging Sha Tin MTR station this afternoon, rioters vandalised Maxim’s bakery located outside the station. Starbucks in Citywalk, Tsuen Wan was also vandalised.
