26th September 2020 – (London) In 2019, the dramatic relationship between Alvin Chau, the CEO of Macau’s biggest junket operator, Suncity, annd Malaysian-American model, Hong Kong actress and host Mandy Lieu, 35, was reportedly over after she gave birth to their daughter.
Lieu who has settled in the U.K. with three children for 5 years, has become a columnist for a local magazine on local sustainable food, lifestyle and family.
She said in her column that ‘A FEW YEARS AGO I LEFT BEHIND A LIFE IN THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY SPOTLIGHT IN ASIA TO START A FAMILY IN THE UK. NOW I INVITE YOU TO SHARE MY JOURNEY AS I SET UP A SUSTAINABLE FOOD BUSINESS AND TRY TO GIVE MY CHILDREN AN UPBRINGING THAT IS NUTRITIOUS, DELICIOUS AND GOOD FOR THE PLANET.’
At the end of last year, it was rumoured that Alvin and Mandy split and she was paid HK$300m as part of the settlement fee. However, sources have revealed that they are back together again this year.
Suncity runs 18 VIP gaming tables in Macau, and 14 more in casinos scattered around the Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia, South Korea, and Australia. Suncity’s operations in Australia have come under scrutiny in 2019 because of negative media reports linking Crown Resorts’ VIP rooms to criminality and money laundering. Chau has been suspected by Australian authorities and the Hong Kong Jockey Club of being a current or former member of the 14k triads. As a result, he was reportedly banned by Home Affairs from entering Australia. Australian current affairs program 60 Minutes quoted a leaked report from the Hong Kong Jockey Club, whose officials were briefed by Australian police in May 2017 that Chau was allegedly linked to “large-scale money-laundering activities.” Chau said he was not aware of reported investigations in Australia, a filing to the Hong Kong stock exchange said.
Lieu was apparently not content to remain Chau’s mistress throughout their five-year relationship, during which time she bore him three children.
Mandy Lieu had dated Bolin Chen for three years before they broke up in 2011. She gave birth to a daughter on 20th May 2015 fathered by the already married Macau casino tycoon Alvin Chau (Chau Cheok Wa’s).
