Man trapped between KMB bus and iron fence for 20 minutes in Mong Kok

26th May 2024 – (Hong Kong) A man was struck by a KMB bus no. 1A while it was making a left turn at the junction of Nathan Road and Argyle Street at approximately 5.34pm today. The victim was trapped between the bus and an iron fence, enduring immense pain. Firefighters had to use cutting equipment to free him from the entrapment. He was then rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital by an ambulance, appearing dazed but fortunately conscious at the time of transportation. Reports indicate that the victim was trapped for 20 minutes before being rescued. The police are currently investigating the cause of the accident, and the traffic flow in the area has been significantly disrupted due to the incident.

This same intersection was also the site of a tragic accident earlier this morning, resulting in two fatalities and three injuries. The collision involved a taxi and a motorcycle, causing the male motorcyclist and his female passenger to be thrown off the bike, hurtling onto the pedestrian walkway and near a bank entrance. Despite immediate medical attention, both victims succumbed to their injuries.

It is worth noting that a nearly identical incident occurred at the same location in 2017. On November 1st of that year, a Citybus struck an 18-year-old mainland Chinese female tourist who was standing beside the iron fence while the bus was making a left turn. The impact caused her right leg to be crushed, eventually leading to the need for amputation. The bus driver later admitted to a charge of dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm and received an 11-month prison sentence, along with a two-year driving suspension.
