26th May 2022 – (Hong Kong) At 1.25pm this afternoon (26th), a man surnamed Ma reported to police for help, saying that he had made an appointment to sell an IWC watch worth about HK$70,000 to HK$80,000 a few days ago, and the other party showed him the mobile phone transfer page to gain the trust of the victim. After the settlement, the buyer falsely claimed that he had mistakenly deposited an additional HK$80,000 into the victim’s account and asked the victim to return it.

The seller noticed that the deposit was made via cheque which bounced later. The victim later found the watch suspected to be involved in the case on the online second-hand trading platform, so he went to Watch Collectors House, a secondhand watch retailer at  8-12 Carnarvon Rd, Tsim Sha Tsui in Tsim Sha Tsui to verify his watch. After checking the production number of the watch body and the customised watch strap, he confirmed that the watch was his lost watch, so he called the police for help. The police arrived at the scene after receiving the report to investigate the incident.
