49-year-old South African man certified dead after suicide by hanging at pedestrian walkway in Lai Tak Tsuen, Tai Hang (Updated: 3.45pm)

16th September 2023 – (Hong Kong) At 7.12am today, a janitor discovered a middle-aged man attempting to hang himself on the staircase of a pedestrian walkway in Lai Tak Tsuen, Tai Hang. Alarmed by the situation, the janitor immediately reported the incident for assistance. Rescue personnel swiftly arrived at the scene and successfully rescued the man, who had fallen into a state of unconsciousness. He was promptly transported by an ambulance to Ruttonjee Hospital for urgent medical treatment before being certified dead.

Upon arrival at the scene, personnel discovered a suicide note. After conducting an investigation, it was confirmed that the deceased male, aged 49, was a South African national holding a Hong Kong identity card. The cause of his death is yet to be determined pending further examination.
