9th February 2023 – (Hong Kong) A 62-year-old male was fined HK$10,000 by the West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts on 8th February for violating the Prevention and Control of Disease (Compulsory Testing for Certain Persons) Regulation (Cap. 599J).
The man, without lawful authority or reasonable excuse, failed to comply with the requirement to undergo the specified COVID-19 test as stipulated in the compulsory testing notice issued on 30th May last year. He was charged with contravening section 13(1) of the Regulation and was fined HK$10,000 by the West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts on 8th February.
A spokesman for the Department of Health said that co-operation of and support by members of the public play a critical role in anti-epidemic work. They must strictly observe relevant requirements in order to fight the pandemic and minimise the risk of transmission in the community. The spokesman reiterated that resolute action will be taken against anyone who breaches the relevant regulations.
