27th January 2023 – (Hong Kong) A 32-second dash cam clip was circulated on social media depicting an incident that occurred at 12am today opposite 576 Nathan Road, Mong Kok. The driver honked to remind the taxi in front which suddenly stopped but during the period, it was suspected that he offended a man and woman who were about to get into the taxi. The man in black misunderstood and thought that the driver used the car horn against him. The man without mask then walked towards to the driver and shouted, “X your mother, what are you doing? X your mother.” During this period, he threw his cap to the ground but his female companion immediately picked it up and attempted to stop him by pulling back into the taxi. He even proclaimed that he was a Sun Yee On triad member. He then went back to the taxi with his companion.
The vehicle owner later shared the video online to show the perpetrator’s face to the whole world and said that he only used his car horn because the taxi stopped abruptly.
On 6th January this year, a man also intimidated a minibus driver in Cheung Sha Wan and was eventually arrested. He also claimed to be a member of the triad. The case was classified as "criminal intimidation" and "self-declared triad member" at that time, and was handed over to the Anti-Triad Action Team of Sham Shui Po Police District for follow-up. The police subsequently arrested 2 men and 2 women in Tai Po on 11th January, aged between 30 and 57, suspected of "drug trafficking" and violation of the "Import and Export (Strategic Commodities) Regulations", including the man who intimidated the minibus driver. He finally charged with one count of "criminal intimidation", one count of "self-declared triad member", one count of "driving without a licence" and two counts of "drug trafficking" on 13th January. He is being remanded in custody until 10th March.
