Mainland Chinese fisherman falls unconscious on boat near Bluff Island, rescue efforts in vain

25th May 2024 – (Hong Kong) In the early hours of today (25th), authorities were alerted to an incident involving a 53-year-old mainland Chinese man surnamed Meng. According to reports, Meng fell unconscious on a fishing boat near Bluff Island in Sai Kung, prompting his colleagues to seek help.

The Government Flying Service helicopter was dispatched to the scene. Personnel hoisted Meng onto the helicopter, revealing no visible injuries. He was then transported to the marine police base opposite Sai Kung and subsequently transferred to the Tseung Kwan O Hospital for medical treatment. Unfortunately, upon arrival at the hospital, it was confirmed that Meng had passed away. Law enforcement officials have initiated an investigation into the incident, pending the results of the autopsy to determine the cause of death.
