Macau PRs and non-PRs to be given start-up amount of MOP5,000 to spend at catering premises and retail outlets


12th April 2021 – (Macau) The Macau government announced today the optimisation plan for the “Electronic Consumption Programme” for residents.The Macau permanent residents and non-permanent residents will be given a start-up amount of MOP5,000 and a maximum of 3,000 patacas in immediate discounts. The programme is expected to be implemented between June and December, with an initial budget of 5.88 billion patacas. Local residents can register online at the Monetary Authority from May to December, choose “mobile payment” or “electronic consumer card” to receive subsidies and use them at catering premises and retail outlets but they cannot be used to pay utility bills, insurance premiums, or to gamble in casinos, etc.

The daily use limit of the electronic consumption discount is 300 patacas, and citizens can enjoy a 25% discount when spending, and the upper limit is 3,000 patacas. After the transaction, the merchant will also provide consumers with a receipt, which contains the consumption details such as the start-up amount and the deduction balance.

Residents who have never received a consumer card can register first and then receive the card recharge. If someone loses the consumer card, they must report the loss to the police before a new card is reissued.
