3rd September 2026 – (Macao) An 18‑year‑old secondary school student in Macao has been referred for prosecution after allegedly splashing drain cleaner on a female teacher inside a campus on R. de Pedro Coutinho on 1st September. Investigators said the youth, reportedly unhappy about previous criticism from the teacher who had earlier served as his class teacher, is suspected of planning the attack a week in advance upon learning she would again be his homeroom teacher in Secondary Six. At about 8.00am on the first day of classes, he is said to have bought the chemical from a supermarket outside the school and then thrown it at the teacher in a corridor, before other staff intervened and police were called.
Officials reported the teacher suffered third‑degree chemical burns over 18 per cent of her left face and body and faces a risk of blindness in her left eye. The suspect also sustained burns, with an estimated recovery time of 15 days. The case has been submitted under the offence of serious bodily harm with aggravating circumstances. Authorities noted the student, surnamed To, has no prior criminal record but is understood to have been under emotional stress, with further details pending investigation.
