Macao bans import of mango fruits from Taiwan tested positive for COVID-19


1st July 2022 – (Macao) Macao government destroyed 100 kilograms of mango fruit from Taiwan after a sample tested positive for COVID-19 virus.

The Macao Municipal Affairs Bureau sealed up and destroyed all 20 boxes of the goods involved, weighing a total of 100 kilograms, and banned the import of products from the same source for one week. The Agriculture Committee of the Executive Yuan of Taiwan is checking whether it has received any relevant information from Macau. It also points out that COVID-19 is not a plant harmful virus, and calls for scientific evidence. According to the report, the Macao Municipal Affairs Bureau immediately launched an emergency plan to destroy the mangosteen involved, but they did not enter the market. At the same time, the import of products from the same source by the manufacturer involved was suspended for one week since Thursday. The authorities also thoroughly disinfected the surrounding environment where the goods were stored, and handed over the information of those who had contact with the goods to the health department for investigation and follow-up.
