Macao authorities crack down on cross-border smuggling, prosecute 95 individuals involved in illicit transport of goods


1st December 2023 – (Macao) Macao,has seen its law enforcement agencies intensify efforts to combat illegal smuggling activities. Employing advanced technological methods to bolster their operations, authorities have successfully intercepted numerous cases of smuggling at various key ports, including the Gongbei Port, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Port, the Qingmao Port, the Macao International Airport, and the Hengqin Port, over a continuous seven-day period from the 23rd to the 29th of last month. These operations have resulted in the prosecution of 95 Macao and mainland Chinese residents, ranging in age from 24 to 75, who were found to be concealing or transporting illicit goods.

In a resolute effort to curb the illegal trade of contraband, law enforcement personnel have seized a wide range of items during their operations. A total of 9,420 cigarettes, approximately 1,891 grams of cigars, 853 beauty products, 13,346 pills and 128 items of medication, around 12 litres of alcohol, 144 used electronic devices, 3,300 used batteries, 68 health supplements, 18 personal care items, 11,150 millilitres of liquid products, 20 pest control items, and approximately 529 kilograms of foodstuffs were among the contraband confiscated.
