Local man arrested for alleged theft of Eastern Box Turtle from Sham Shui Po shop

21st November 2023 – (Hong Kong) In a recent incident of turtle theft, authorities in Sham Shui Po responded to a report filed by a shop owner on Yen Chow Street. The owner suspected that one of the turtles in their shop had been stolen. Following an extensive investigation, including a review of CCTV footage by the Sham Shui Po District Task Force, a local man named Cheung (49 years old) was apprehended at the intersection of Yen Chow Street and Fuk Wing Street.

Cheung has been arrested on suspicion of theft and is now under the jurisdiction of the Sham Shui Po Police District’s Criminal Investigation Team. Simultaneously, the authorities have recovered the turtle in question and returned it to its rightful owner.

The stolen turtle has been identified as an Eastern box turtle. The owner, upon discovering the incident, sought help online and offered a reward of HKD 10,000 for information leading to the apprehension of the thief. A circulating video clip, believed to be captured by a surveillance camera, shows a man dressed in black, wearing a mask, and pushing a luggage trolley. The man can be seen hurriedly leaving the scene, holding a transparent bag. In the audio accompanying the footage, a voice can be heard saying, “It’s him, it’s him!”
