Local and Pakistani teens arrested for suspected involvement in Tuesday’s attack on 54-year-old man in Sai Ying Pun

18th March 2023 – (Hong Kong) Police received a report from a security guard at 118 Connaught Road West, Sai Ying Pun on Tuesday (14th), around 3pm that a 54-year-old man surnamed Cheng had been attacked from behind by two unknown men wielding a 15-centimetre long knife. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and the assailants managed to escape before authorities arrived. Following a preliminary investigation, the incident has been classified as an assault with Cheng sustaining injuries to his head, back, and feet. He was sent to Queen Mary Hospital for treatment while the case was under investigation.

After conducting further inquiries, authorities arrested a 16-year-old local male teenager and an 18-year-old Pakistani man holding a Hong Kong identity card on Thursday (16th) and today (18th) respectively in Cheung Shan Estate and Lei Muk Shue Estate, Tsuen Wan. Both individuals are suspected of involvement in the attack on Cheng. The 16-year-old has been charged with assault and has already appeared before the Eastern Magistrates’ Court today. The 18-year-old Pakistani man is currently being detained for further investigation.
