18th March 2024 – (Hong Kong) Lingnan University has recently hosted the “Resurgence Career Expo@LingnanU 2024” – a pivotal event that signifies a strong rebound in the job market. The three-day expo, which ran from the 13th to the 15th of March, has been the University’s most substantial career-related gathering since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The career fair has garnered the participation of a noteworthy ensemble of more than 100 esteemed local and international companies, offering upwards of a thousand job opportunities. The event was held in a hybrid format, with both in-person and online components, the latter of which will be accessible until the end of April.
At the heart of the event was the engagement with over a thousand Lingnan University students and alumni who were presented with a broad spectrum of employment prospects. The physical engagement was complemented by an online platform, facilitating a seamless interaction between the potential employers and the university’s talent pool.
The vast array of participating industries spanned from government departments, arts and culture, to the financial sector and beyond. First-time attendees included more than ten government departments, such as the Civil Service Bureau, signalling a robust endorsement from the public sector. The event was also graced by the presence of major corporations like Ernst & Young and Deloitte China, showcasing the confidence of the private sector in the graduates of Lingnan University.
Professor S. Joe Qin, President and Chair Professor of Data Science at Lingnan University, extolled the significant upswing in the starting salaries of the University’s undergraduates, which saw a momentous 9.8% year-on-year increase. Prof. Qin also highlighted the University’s achievement in the JUPAS application figures for the upcoming year, where Lingnan has seen a substantial growth, ranking second in the overall application increase among UGC-funded universities.
“Seize the opportunities this Expo presents,” Prof. Qin urged the students, portraying the event as a catalyst for both personal and professional development. He further encouraged them to utilise the diversity of disciplines represented and to engage actively with potential employers.
Ms. Carrie Leung Ka-lai, Chairman of Lingnan University’s Career Development Committee, echoed the sentiment, acknowledging the resilience of the University and its commitment to nurturing young talents. She emphasised the importance of creating opportunities and investing in the education and development of the younger generation.
