2nd October 2026 – (Nagoya) Ceci Lee Sze-wing added an Asian Games bronze in the women’s omnium after Kazakhstan’s Rinata Sultanova surged past her in the closing points race, leaving the Hong Kong rider with one silver and one bronze from Aichi-Nagoya and still without gold.

A day after pairing with Leung Wing-yee for Madison silver, Lee contested the four-race omnium alone at the Izu velodrome. The format stacks a scratch race, tempo race, elimination race and points race, with the highest aggregate deciding the medals. She opened with third in the scratch and first in the tempo, sharing 76 points with Japan’s Yumi Kajihara but ranking ahead because Kajihara had only finished second in the tempo.

In the elimination race, where the last rider each lap is removed, Lee rode steadily into a final three with Kajihara and Uzbekistan’s Nafosat Kozieva. Eliminated third, she slipped to second on 112 points, two behind Kajihara, while Sultanova sat third on 106. The points race then became decisive: eight sprints award 5, 3, 2 and 1 points to the first four across the line, with the last sprint doubled.

Kajihara took the opening sprint for five points, with China’s Chen Ning, Kozieva and South Korea’s Shin Jieun filling the rest of the scoreboard. Lee was squeezed to second on the next sprint as Kajihara’s total climbed to 126 against her 115. The Japanese star again plundered five on the third sprint while Lee scored nothing, and after four sprints Kajihara led on 134 with Lee on 117.

Sultanova then seized the fifth sprint for five points, cutting Lee’s cushion over her to four. The Kazakh continued to force the pace, taking another five on the sixth while Lee salvaged three and clung to second. On the seventh sprint Lee drew blank again as Sultanova banked five more to reach 123 and leap into silver-medal position, three ahead. Lee still had a chance on the doubled final sprint, collecting four points, but Sultanova took ten. The board closed Kajihara on 136 for gold, Sultanova on 133 for silver and Lee on 124 for bronze.

Elsewhere on the track, Hong Kong’s sprint pair Yeung Cho-yiu and Ching Yin-shan, who had fought through repechage into the quarter-finals a day earlier, both exited 0-2 — Ching to China’s Yuan Liying and Yeung to Japan’s Mina Sato — before finishing sixth and eighth in the 5th-to-8th classification. In the men’s keirin, To Cheuk-hei won his opening heat and Yung Tsun-ho climbed through the repechage; Yung edged To 10.414sec to 10.419sec for third in their semi-final heat to reach the final alone, only to finish sixth after Japan launched early and forced him wide. Malaysia’s 38-year-old Azizulhasni Awang took gold, with China’s Li Zhiwei and Xie Han claiming silver and bronze.
