Large concrete debris falls from roof canopy of Tai Po building, no injuries reported


28th May 2024 – (Hong Kong) At 7.21am today, a portion of concrete measuring approximately 1 meter by 1 meter detached and fell from the roof canopy of a building located at 157 Kwong Fuk Road in Tai Po. The incident exposed the underlying steel reinforcement structure of the canopy. A passerby quickly alerted authorities upon discovering the fallen debris. Upon receiving the report, personnel promptly arrived at the scene and cordoned off the area.

Upon initial inspection, besides the concrete detachment, it was also observed that there were visible cracks on a horizontal beam of the building. As a precautionary measure, the fire department was notified to assist in clearing any potentially hazardous sections. The matter will be handed over to the Buildings Department for further investigation and necessary repairs. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in connection with the incident.
