12th March 2023 – (Hong Kong) Kwoon Chung Southern’s forward Mahama Awal is now eligible to play for Hong Kong’s national team in the upcoming matches this month, after successfully changing his nationality. Awal was recently allowed to make a quick visit to Beijing to complete the necessary paperwork for obtaining a Hong Kong passport.
This visit came after he had previously faced difficulties in crossing the border between Hong Kong and mainland China. During his three-day stay in Beijing, Awal renounced his former nationality at the Cameroonian embassy, as required by China. He returned to Hong Kong in time to participate in his team’s Premier League victory over Sham Shui Po with a score of 3-0 on Sunday.
