17th March 2023 – (Moscow) In a recent development, Russia has declared that it will destroy all fighter jets supplied to Ukraine by Western nations. This comes after Poland and Slovakia pledged to send MiG-29 jets to Kyiv. The move by NATO countries to send billions of dollars of military aid to Ukraine since Russia’s invasion last year has heightened tensions between the two sides.
Kyiv has been requesting weapons that it says are vital to fend off Russian advances. However, Moscow has accused the West of directly participating in the conflict by supplying weapons to Ukraine. This has led to a warning by Russia that NATO weapons were legitimate targets for its forces.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has announced that in the course of a special military operation, all equipment supplied by Western nations to Ukraine will be subject to destruction. He further added that it appears as if all of these countries are engaged in the disposal of old and unnecessary equipment.
Slovakia, which retired its fleet of 11 MiG-29s last summer, had ordered F-16 fighter jets from the United States in 2018 to replace its aging planes. The development marks a critical juncture in the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, and its impact remains to be seen.
