24th March 2024 – (Portimao) The Algarve International Circuit was the stage for Pramac Racing’s Jorge Martin to secure a commanding victory at the Portuguese Grand Prix, propelling him to the top of the MotoGP championship leaderboard.

Meanwhile, the event was marked by the meteoric rise of Pedro Acosta, the 19-year-old rookie sensation, who surged to his first-ever premier class podium finish.

Acosta, who began the race in seventh position, demonstrated remarkable prowess to clinch third place, coming in just behind Enea Bastianini, the rider who commenced the race at pole position. The young Spaniard’s ascent to the podium was further dramatized by Maverick Vinales’ misfortune; the sprint race victor on Saturday succumbed to a crash on the circuit’s final lap due to an apparent technical snag, which ultimately reshaped the leaderboard.

Martin’s triumph at the Portuguese circuit was not merely a personal victory but also a strategic advance, as he overtook reigning champion Francesco Bagnaia in the championship standings. Bagnaia’s hopes were dashed in an ill-fated collision with the venerated Marc Marquez, a six-time MotoGP champion, representing the Gresini Ducati team. The tussle between the two icons of the sport resulted in a dramatic exit from the race, as Bagnaia endeavoured to reclaim his position on the inside only to entangle with Marquez, leading both riders to crash out with just three laps remaining.
