John Lee expected to travel to Beijing this week to receive his letter of appointment as CE in Beijing

23rd May 2022 – (Hong Kong) John Lee has been formally appointed by the State Council as the sixth chief executive of Hong Kong by Premier Li Keqiang on last Saturday. According to sources, he will be going to Beijing to receive his letter of appointment within this letter and it is unsure as to how long he will stay in Beijing. His wife and the staff of the Chief Executive office will accompany him during the trip. He is expected to present his selection of team members for approval. Both the existing Secretary for Finance and Secretary for Justice are expected to be retained.

It is reported that when Lee met with the political circles recently, he also expressed concern over that the pressure of being the new chief executive. Many expect the new government to achieve results as soon as possible after taking office.

On 26th March 2017, existing Chief Executive Carrie Lam was appointed. On 11th April, Premier Li Keqiang issued a State Council decree appointing her as Hong Kong’s fifth chief executive in Zhongnanhai, Beijing. On the afternoon of the same day, President Xi Jinping met with Carrie Lam.
