Jay Chou and other Taiwanese celebrities share their experience after strong earthquake hit Hualien

    3rd April 2024 – (Taipei) The Taiwan Central Weather Administration reported a powerful earthquake measuring 7.2 on the Richter scale, striking Hualien at 7.58am local time on the 3rd of April. The quake resulted in significant damage to numerous buildings, while certain areas of Taipei experienced power outages. The impact was so severe that the Taiwan High-Speed Rail system came to a complete halt, and the Taipei Metro suspended its services for 40 minutes.

    Following the earthquake, popular Taiwanese singer Jay Chou took to Instagram to share his experience, posting a time-limited update that read, “It was shaking uncontrollably, but I am safe!” Chou’s message resonated with many of his fans and followers, who expressed relief at his well-being.

    The earthquake centred near Hualien City caused buildings to tilt and suffer structural damage, as captured by X/ahoy_cubism in a photo. This alarming event prompted other Taiwanese celebrities to share their thoughts and safety status on social media platforms. Actress Dee Hsu, also known as Xiao S, posted on Instagram, “May God protect us all, wishing everyone’s safety!” Meanwhile, male star Aaron Yan expressed his concern on the social platform “Threads,” stating, “Everyone, please stay safe. Aftershocks are expected.” Heartthrob Ko Chen-tung exclaimed, “Oh my goodness! Please keep everyone safe!”
