Japanese reporter arrested on 31st August during clash in Mong Kok


3rd September 2020 – (Hong Kong) A large number of protesters gathered in Prince Edward, Kowloon and Mong Kok areas in the evening of 31st August to commemorate the 31st August incident at Prince Edward MTR Station last year. There were demonstrations and clashes on the streets. According to a Japanese media report today (3rd), a Japanese reporter was arrested and the Japanese Consulate General in Hong Kong has confirmed the relevant news.

The report stated that the arrested man was born in Hong Kong and grew up in Japan. The man has lived in Hong Kong since 2016 and has been filming and documenting anti-extradition demonstrations since last year. The article mentioned that the latest post on the arrestee’s Facebook account was shown on the 31st of last month. A large number of demonstrators gathered in Prince Edward and Mong Kok that night, and 15 people were arrested by the police.
