It’s official: Dine-in services extended to 12 midnight, bars, karaoke, nightclubs etc allowed to reopen


15th September 2020 – (Hong Kong) The COVID-19 epidemic has slowed down. The Secretary for Food and Health, Professor Dr.Sophia Chani, announced this afternoon that the Hong Kong government will further relax epidemic prevention measures, including extending the dining time of restaurants to 12 midnight. Bars and pubs, public bathhouses, theme parks, exhibition venues, party rooms, nightclubs, karaoke and swimming pools that were previously banned can be reopened, and there will be restrictions on certain listed premises, such as fitness centres and sports premises, will be relaxed.

In addition, the four-person ban on gatherings and the restrictions on the mask order will also be maintained. The new measures will take effect from this Friday (18th) to the 24th of this month for a period of 7 days.

Chan also revealed that between the 11th and 13th of this month, the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department has inspected 3,493 restaurant premises and prosecuted 53 persons in charge. This involved irregular table distances, customers not wearing masks, and the number of people dining exceeded the allowed capacity.
