29th September 2023 – (Hong Kong) The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health has initiated an investigation into an outbreak of upper respiratory tract infection (URTI) at Lei Muk Shue Catholic Primary School in Tsuen Wan. The CHP urges the public and institution staff to remain vigilant and adhere to strict personal and environmental hygiene practices.
The outbreak has affected a total of 20 students, comprising 11 males and nine females, aged between 8 and 11 years old. Symptoms began to manifest from 22nd September, with 12 of the affected students seeking medical attention. Fortunately, none of them required hospitalization, and they are all currently in stable condition. In response to the situation, the CHP has provided the primary school with preventive advice regarding URTI. Recommendations include arranging thorough cleaning and disinfection measures, ensuring appropriate ventilation by opening windows, and implementing the separation of affected students from their peers. The primary school has been placed under medical surveillance to closely monitor the situation.
