Intoxicated man creates disturbance and assaults police in Yau Ma Tei, subdued with pepper spray

18th September 2023 – (Hong Kong) At around 2.30am, law enforcement officers received a report regarding a male individual who refused to disembark from a taxi upon arriving at the intersection of Shanghai Street and Saigon Street in Yau Ma Tei. Personnel were dispatched to the scene, where the man exhibited agitated behaviour and refused to cooperate, allegedly physically assaulting one of the male officers. Despite verbal warnings, the individual continued to resist, prompting the use of pepper spray to subdue him.

Following a preliminary investigation, the arrested individual, identified as Mr. Shek (46 years old), is suspected of charges including “disorderly behaviour in a public place while intoxicated” and “assaulting a police officer.” He is currently detained for further investigation. Both Mr. Shek and the officer who was assaulted sustained injuries and were taken to Kwong Wah Hospital for treatment while conscious.
