International Arts Carnival to showcase unique dance installation performance ‘Fields of Tender’ for infants and toddlers

21st June 2024 – (Hong Kong) The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) is organising the highly anticipated International Arts Carnival (IAC) from 5th July to 11th August. Among the diverse lineup of events, the IAC will showcase a remarkable dance installation performance called ‘Fields of Tender’ from 12th to 13th July. This unique production, crafted by the acclaimed Swedish choreographer Dalija Acin Thelander, is specifically designed for infants, toddlers, and their parents, promising a delightful experience for all.

Thelander, renowned for her expertise in neurodiversity studies and performing arts practices, has created an enchanting world within ‘Fields of Tender’. The performance incorporates a mesmerizing stage design and soft lighting, establishing an intimate and welcoming space for the youngest audience members. Infants aged 3 to 18 months are invited to explore a dreamlike wonderland adorned with fluffy and cuddly decorations, where their senses will be stimulated in captivating ways.

Having garnered international acclaim, Thelander’s immersive sensory dance productions have enthralled audiences across Asia, Europe, South America, and Africa. She has received prestigious commissions from the Royal Swedish Opera in 2017 and 2022, along with winning the esteemed ASSITEJ International Award for Artistic Excellence in 2021.

‘Fields of Tender’ will be showcased at the Black Box Theatre of Kwai Tsing Theatre, with performances scheduled for 5.15pm on 12th July, and 11am, 2.15pm, and 4pm on 13th and 14th July. Free-seating tickets are available for purchase at URBTIX (www.urbtix.hk), priced at $320, with a half-price discount offered for infants. To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience, children must be accompanied by parents or adults throughout the performance. Audience members are free to enter or exit the venue at any time and will be seated on the floor, kindly requested to remove their shoes before entering the performance area.

Furthermore, an exciting outreach dance performance will be held on 7th July at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Foyer from 2pm to 2.30pm. This special event will feature a flash mob specifically designed for children of all abilities, followed by a sharing session by Thelander herself. The outreach performance is part of the LCSD’s Dance for All Community Care Inclusive Dance Scheme, aiming to promote social inclusion with its slogan, “Everybody can dance”.
