15th March 2023 – (Lisbon) Inter Milan secured their place in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals for the first time in a decade as they held Porto to a goalless draw on Tuesday, progressing 1-0 on aggregate.

Following a poor run of domestic form, Inter sought to make a strong statement at Estadio do Dragao, where they held a slim first-leg advantage courtesy of a late goal from Romelu Lukaku. Despite Porto’s dominance throughout the game, Inter’s goalkeeper Andre Onana stood firm to keep them at bay.

In a dramatic finale, Denzel Dumfries made a crucial goal-line clearance for Inter, and Onana produced a stunning fingertip save to deny Mehdi Taremi’s header, which hit the upright before Marko Grujic’s effort struck the post. Porto’s hopes were further diminished when winger Pepe received his second yellow card, reducing them to 10 men. Despite their efforts, the home side were unable to turn the game around.

Inter now join AC Milan as the second Serie A team to reach the Champions League quarterfinals, with Napoli expected to follow suit as they host Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday with a 2-0 first-leg advantage.
