15th May 2024 – (Hong Kong) The highly anticipated bun scrambling competition, the highlight of the Cheung Chau Bun Festival, took place in the early hours of Thursday (16th) at midnight. Nine men and three women vied for the prestigious titles of “Bun King” and “Bun Queen.” Hundreds of spectators filled the venue on Wednesday evening (15th), eagerly awaiting the start of the competition. One enthusiastic participant arrived as early as 12.30am on Thursday, hoping to soak in the vibrant atmosphere of the event. The venue can accommodate up to 1,000 spectators.

Among the competitors is Kwok Ka-ming, who is known as the “King of Kings.” Kwok advanced to the finals this year, seeking redemption after his disqualification last year for failing to touch the ground within the three-minute time limit, thus shattering his dreams of claiming a 10th title. His journey to reclaim the prestigious “Pillar King” crown has become one of the focal points of this year’s competition. Kwok secured a spot in the finals by demonstrating the third-fastest time during the preliminary rounds.
