Inland Revenue Department warns of phishing scam

1st March 2024 – (Hong Kong) The Inland Revenue Department has issued a stern warning regarding a series of deceitful emails circulating among the public, which falsely claim to originate from the department. These emails suggest that recipients are entitled to tax refunds and coax them into clicking on a link that directs them to a bogus website. This site is designed to harvest sensitive personal details and credit card information from unsuspecting victims.

The department has categorically denied any association with these deceptive communications and has taken swift action by reporting the matter to law enforcement authorities for an in-depth investigation. The general public is urged to exercise caution and refrain from engaging with any emails that appear dubious or unverified.
