Man reported to have jumped off MTR Sha Tin Station platform onto tracks before being certified dead, train service disrupted (Updated: 9am)


24th March 2023 – (Hong Kong) Hong Kong’s East Rail Line faced delays this morning after a man entered the tracks at Sha Tin Station. The incident occurred at 7.19am when the individual fell from the platform onto the tracks towards the direction of Admiralty Station. The man is suspected to have been hit by a train, and emergency services rescued him from under the train. He was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment but he was subsequently certified dead. The cause of the incident is under investigation.

The incident has caused significant disruption to train services on the East Rail Line. The Hong Kong MTR Corporation announced at 7.29am that services between Admiralty Station and Lo Wu Station/Lok Ma Chau Station would experience delays of an additional 10 to 15 minutes.

Train services on the East Rail Line have been impacted due to the incident. Trains were running every 5 minutes between Admiralty Station and Tai Wai Station, every 15 minutes between Admiralty Station and Lo Wu Station, every 15 minutes between Tai Po Market Station and Lok Ma Chau Station, and every 5 minutes between Fo Tan Station and Lo Wu Station.

The MTR Corporation advised passengers to allow extra time for their journeys and to check for updates before travelling. In addition, shuttle buses have been arranged between Tai Wai and Sha Tin stations, and between University Station and Sheung Shui Station to help alleviate some of the disruption caused by the incident.

The train service resumed normal operations around 8.10 am this morning.
