Income for taxi drivers falls over 70% due to virus outbreak

26th February 2020 – (Hong Kong) Income for taxi drivers has fallen over 70% during the coronavirus outbreak. The spokesperson for Taxi Drivers & Operators Association said that inbound tourists to Hong Kong have fallen substantially and since the government introduced a subsidy of HK$1 per litre of gas reduction last year, the first subsidy has yet to be received. He hopes that the government will expedite the approval and urges the government to step up its efforts to help frontline drivers overcome difficulties.

Due to the epidemic, income for taxi drivers has fallen by 70%, and although vehicle rental has fallen, it is still not enough to make up for the losses.
