Impending closure of Sevva in Central to leave staff struggling with livelihoods

30th November 2023 – (Hong Kong) Sevva, the renowned entertainment destination that has hosted international celebrities will be closing its doors in May 2024. Founded by entrepreneur Bonnae Gokson, Sevva has been a symbol of elegance and style since its inception in 2008.

Located on the 25th floor of the Landmark Prince, Sevva has become the epitome of a city hotspot. Its sophisticated furnishings exude timeless charm, reminiscent of the pages of a luxury interior design magazine. However, it is the remarkable terrace that truly sets Sevva apart, offering a breathtaking 360-degree view of Central and Admiralty’s iconic skyscrapers, the picturesque harbour, and the mesmerizing Kowloon skyline. This vantage point has made Sevva a favourite among both locals and tourists alike.

The owner admitted that closure will affect the livelihoods of all its staff. As for what the future holds for Gokson, that remains uncertain.

Over the past four years, Hong Kong’s hospitality and tourism sectors have suffered significant setbacks, with rents in the city’s most expensive retail area hitting a ten-year low due to stringent Covid measures. In an effort to regain the trust of global investors and visitors, the government has implemented measures to stimulate tourism businesses and the nighttime economy.

In early 2024, Sevva, a renowned establishment, plans to host a grand celebration to commemorate its rich history. Notably, prominent figures such as Bill Clinton, Jennifer Lopez, Pharrell Williams, Sting, and Robert De Niro have all enjoyed the dining experience at Sevva. The restaurant offers a diverse menu that combines traditional regional Asian cuisines with Western fine dining, drawing inspiration from the owner’s personal travel experiences.
