30th May 2024 – (Hong Kong) The Immigration Department is set to open its new headquarters in Tseung Kwan O on June 11th, providing a range of services including document processing, wedding registration, and signature authentication. The new headquarters, conveniently located near Tseung Kwan O and Tiu Keng Leng MTR stations, will be easily accessible to citizens within a 5 to 8-minute walk from the MTR stations. The Immigration Department announced today (29th) that the existing Immigration Tower in Wan Chai will continue to provide identity card services until 2026. Afterwards, the department will collaborate with the government to explore suitable locations in Hong Kong Island for establishing a new Immigration Office.

Situated at 61 Po Yap Road, the new headquarters occupies the second floor of the building and houses the Births and Marriages Registry. Additionally, a wedding hall has been established on the ground floor, providing a venue for wedding ceremonies. The hall spans approximately 100 meters and can accommodate up to 80 people. It features a unique design, including a starry backdrop and adjustable lighting systems in various colours, offering couples a wide range of choices. Furthermore, outside the hall, there is a heart-shaped flower garden, serving as a picturesque spot for newlyweds and guests to capture memorable moments. The Immigration Department has already received 46 pre-booked applications for wedding registrations.

The headquarters consists of two main buildings: the Enforcement Tower and the Administration Building, both towering 18 stories high. With a total area of 17,200 square meters, the headquarters provides a net operational floor space of 57,400 square meters. The overall design of the headquarters harmonises with the surrounding environment and incorporates various environmental-friendly features and green spaces. The office spaces adopt a modern office concept, optimising space utilisation and enhancing flexibility, collaboration, and openness.

Within the new headquarters, there are a total of 44 Submission Kiosks and 10 Collection Kiosks located between the ground floor and the third floor. After the amendment of the Registration of Persons Ordinance, eligible individuals will be able to use the self-service kiosks to submit applications for both identity cards and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region passports when renewing their identity cards. Further details will be announced in due course.

Regarding transitional arrangements, the Hong Kong Island Office at the 8th floor of the Immigration Tower will continue to provide services for citizens applying for identity cards. As for travel document applications, individuals can continue to visit the Travel Document Issuing Office in the Central Government Offices in Central.

In addition, in line with the headquarters’ relocation, the receiving counter on the 2nd floor of the Immigration Tower in Wan Chai will cease operations from 12pm noon on the 8th of next month, and the collection box on the 1st floor will be removed from 5pm on the 11th of next month. Starting from the 11th, citizens can drop off their documents at the receiving counter located in the ground floor lobby of the Immigration Department Headquarters in Tseung Kwan O.
