3rd August 2025 – (Hong Kong) Sham Chai Kee, a well-established noodle shop located at Shop 137F, 1/F, Park Central, 9 Tong Tak Street, Tseung Kwan O, is set to cease operations by late August after the management declined to renew its lease, despite the eatery’s readiness to extend and pay higher rent. Regular patrons expressed dismay over the closure, highlighting the scarcity of traditional delicacies and noting the unfortunate trend of eateries shutting down.

The branch of Sham Chai Kee at Park Central, Tseung Kwan O, which has been in operation for six years, will be closing its doors towards the end of August. Despite the establishment’s willingness to negotiate a lease extension and pay increased rent, the owners opted not to continue the tenancy, leading to this decision.

During a recent visit by local reporters around 1.30pm today, the restaurant was packed with customers, with a line forming outside. Some loyal patrons of Sham Chai Kee voiced their discontent, questioning the rationale behind the refusal to renew the lease despite the willingness to pay higher rent. Others expressed regret at the diminishing availability of traditional dishes and observed the prevailing trend of eateries facing closures.
