10th August 2026 – (Hong Kong) A swarm of 2,000 drones is turning the New Hung Hom Harbourfront into a floating cha chaan teng every Friday and Saturday night, sketching roast goose with dripping juices and other local favourites across Victoria Harbour’s dark.
The food-themed light show began on 7th August and now runs as a regular fixture on Fridays and Saturdays from 8.00pm to 8.15pm. Free to watch and lasting about 15 minutes, the formations recreate classic Hong Kong dishes in mid-air — Cantonese roast goose, typhoon shelter crab, Hong Kong-style French toast and pineapple buns among them — using massed lights, three-dimensional patterns and short animated sequences that play out above the promenade.
Online clips of a “dripping roast goose” hanging in the night sky quickly drew hungry jokes. Viewers said the glowing bird made them want supper before the show had even finished. Promoters frame the programme as a mix of optics and appetite: a visual feast that also tips its hat to the city’s everyday food culture, from wet-market crab to bakery buns still warm in the imagination.
The opening Friday performance on 7th August closed to applause from residents and tourists packed along the new waterfront, with organisers describing a lively first night for what they intend as a standing weekend attraction.
Because the display is outdoors and uses controlled airspace, it can be delayed or cancelled when weather or flight conditions turn against it. Visitors are advised to check the latest notices before setting out. When the sky is clear, however, the quarter-hour slot from 8.00pm offers a free look at Hong Kong comfort food written in drones — crackling goose skin, battered French toast, a pineapple bun and more — above the Hung Hom shore for anyone who turns up on Friday or Saturday.
