15th October 2019 – (Hong Kong) At around 7pm today, hundreds of protesters turned up in front of W Plaza on Soy Street, Mong Kok to participate in a gathering to praise the United States. Many brought musical instruments to sing hymn and U.S. national anthem. Meanwhile, less than 100 protesters gathered at Southorn Playground in Wan Chai to show solidarity with Daryl Morey.
The lucrative relationship between the league and China has been damaged since the Houston Rockets general manager, Daryl Morey, tweeted in support of anti-government protestors in Hong Kong earlier this month. Morey subsequently deleted the tweet but China has threatened to cut ties with the NBA, and some Chinese companies have backed out of broadcasts and sponsorship deals. Some burned the jersey of LeBron James after he said that Daryl Morey wasn’t ‘educated’ before Hong Kong tweet.
Elsewhere in Sha Kok Estate, Sha Tin, around 60 civilians were watching screening of documentarry made by Edward Leung, former spokesman of Hong Kong Indigenous who was arrested in the 2016 Mong Kok civil unrest.
