27th May 2024 – (London) Hong Kong’s snooker player, Ng On-yee, secured a remarkable triumph in her career as she emerged victorious in the Landywood British Open, defeating Mink Nutcharut with a commanding 4-1 scoreline.

Throughout the day, the 33-year-old demonstrated her prowess by registering impressive wins against former world champions Baipat Siripaporn and Reanne Evans, as well as three-time U.K. Championship winner Tessa Davidson, en route to claiming the coveted title.

This remarkable accomplishment marks Ng’s third ranking title of the season, where she has accumulated more ranking points than any other player, solidifying her position as a force to be reckoned with in the snooker world. Furthermore, this victory also marks a significant milestone in her career, as she becomes only the sixth player ever to achieve 20 ranking titles.

Notably, this season has witnessed a pattern of the top two ranked players competing in the final, and the Landywood British Open was no exception. Nutcharut, hailing from Thailand, had previously triumphed at the US Open and Belgian Open tournaments, while Ng secured victory in Albania.

Nutcharut faced challenging battles earlier in the day, including a remarkable comeback from a 0-2 deficit against Ng’s compatriot, Cheung Yee-ting. In a highly competitive semi-final, Nutcharut emerged victorious with a 4-2 scoreline against England’s Rebecca Kenna.

Awaiting her in the final was Ng, who showcased her exceptional skills by defeating the 2023 world champion in the last 16. She continued her dominant run by overcoming Tessa Davidson and, in a closely contested semi-final, securing a notable 4-2 victory against six-time British Open champion Reanne Evans.

After sharing the opening two frames of the title match, Ng demonstrated her class by winning the next three frames convincingly, ultimately claiming a comfortable victory and securing a hat-trick of title successes. This achievement is particularly significant for Ng, as she had been unable to capture any silverware in the previous season.
