Hong Kong’s Deputy Justice Secretary spearheads legal delegation to Saudi Arabia’s Disputes Week

3rd March 2024 – (Hong Kong) Hong Kong is poised to advance its legal and dispute resolution prowess as the Deputy Secretary for Justice, Mr Horace Cheung Kwok-kwan, embarks on a landmark visit to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on 4th March. The visit, aligned with the inaugural Riyadh International Disputes Week (RIDW), represents a strategic move to bolster Hong Kong’s reputation as a premier hub for international legal and dispute resolution services in the Asia-Pacific.

This pioneering journey by the Department of Justice into the Middle East underscores a proactive approach to nurturing international partnerships under the Belt and Road Initiative. The delegation, comprising esteemed members from the Law Society of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Bar Association, and leading figures from the legal and dispute resolution sectors, will showcase Hong Kong’s legal acumen on an international stage.

Throughout the RIDW, Mr Cheung is slated to deliver insights at a thematic event and a luncheon hosted by the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre. His agenda also includes participation in the Third International Conference and Exhibition orchestrated by the Saudi Center for Commercial Arbitration.

This outreach extends beyond conferences, as Mr Cheung is scheduled to visit the regional offices of a global law firm, a move set to enhance bilateral exchanges and cooperation with Saudi counterparts.
