Hong Kong’s CSSA caseloads dip by 0.2% in April

20th May 2024 – (Hong Kong) Hong Kong’s Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) program recorded a slight decrease in caseloads during April, with a total of 365 fewer cases, or a reduction of 0.2%, compared to March. This was revealed in the latest statistics from the Social Welfare Department released today.

The total number of CSSA recipients at the end of April stood at 270,618, distributed across 198,840 cases. A breakdown by type of assistance shows varying degrees of decline across different categories. Notably, cases involving low earnings witnessed the most significant drop by 1.1%, bringing the total to 1,513. Meanwhile, unemployment-related cases decreased by 0.4%, totalling 16,879.

Further analysis shows a uniform decrease of 0.2% in old age, permanent disability, and single-parent cases, which now stand at 111,425, 17,072, and 20,148 respectively. However, cases due to ill-health remained unchanged at 27,862.
