24th May 2024 – (Hong Kong) In an effort to provide an authentic and immersive experience for tourists, the Hong Kong Tourism Board has introduced the ‘Hong Kong Pals’ volunteer programme. This initiative aims to encourage individuals from diverse backgrounds to share their personal insights and recommendations, enabling visitors to explore the city like a local. Tourists can easily connect with a ‘Hong Kong Pal’ by visiting any of the designated visitor centres.

From now until 31st May, 2024, residents of Hong Kong have the opportunity to become a part of the ‘Hong Kong Pals’ programme. By joining this volunteer network, participants can contribute to the promotion of their beloved city and help create memorable experiences for visitors. Through casual conversations and friendly interactions, ‘Hong Kong Pals’ will share their in-depth knowledge of the city’s hidden gems, local customs, and must-try delicacies.

The programme aims to foster cultural exchange and create meaningful connections between locals and tourists. By engaging with ‘Hong Kong Pals’, visitors can gain valuable insights and discover off-the-beaten-path attractions that may not be found in guidebooks. Whether it’s recommending a popular local eatery, suggesting a scenic hiking trail, or sharing tips on navigating public transportation, these volunteers will serve as friendly guides, offering a unique perspective on the city.

To become a ‘Hong Kong Pal’, interested residents can submit their applications until the deadline of 31st May, 2024. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to participate in training sessions to enhance their communication skills and deepen their knowledge of Hong Kong’s culture, history, and landmarks. By becoming ambassadors of their city, ‘Hong Kong Pals’ will contribute to the growth of tourism and help create a positive and memorable experience for visitors.
