Hong Kong private home price index drops after thirteen-month rise comes to an end

27th August 2026 – (Hong Kong) Hong Kong’s private residential property market has seen its long run of price increases come to a halt, according to the latest provisional figures released by the Rating and Valuation Department on 27th August. In July 2026, the private home price index stood at 321.5 points, reflecting a monthly decrease of approximately 0.46 per cent. This marks the end of a thirteen-month streak of gains in residential property prices. Despite this recent decline, the index for the first seven months of the year has still registered a cumulative rise of about 7.31 per cent.

When compared with the historic peak of 398.1 points recorded in September 2021, last month’s private home price index remains around 19.2 per cent below that level.

Alongside price movements, rental values in the private residential sector have continued their upward momentum. The rental index for July reached 207.4 points, setting yet another record high with a further monthly increase of 0.78 per cent. This signifies nine consecutive months of growth, resulting in a total increase of roughly 3.75 per cent so far this year. Over the first seven months of 2026, rental prices have cumulatively risen by approximately 3.44 per cent.
