Hong Kong Premier League side Kitchee eliminated in AFC Champions League

19th August 2022 – (Hong Kong) Kitchee had the best performance of a Hong Kong Premier League club in the AFC Champions League on Friday, despite a 4-0 defeat to BG Pathum United of Thailand in the one-off round of 16.

Kitchee became the first HK Premier League side to move into the elimination phase of ACL after a second-finish in the group stage.

Facing BG Pathum United, Kitchee only managed one shot on target out of nine attempts, while the opposite was more aggressive as it was up by two goals before the break and then added another two to seal the win.

The win also marked the first time for BG Pathum United to move into the ACL quarterfinals.

In a later fixture, Japan’s Urawa Red Diamonds also advanced into the last eight after a 5-0 drubbing over Johor Darul Ta’zim of Malaysia.
