2nd October 2026 – (Hong Kong) The Government has announced an increase to the Minimum Allowable Wage for foreign domestic helpers, lifting the monthly rate by 2.35 per cent from HK$5,100 to HK$5,220. The revision takes effect for all contracts signed on or after 3rd October, following an annual review that weighed economic performance, labour market conditions, employers’ affordability and the basic living needs of helpers.
Officials said most employers provide free meals under the Standard Employment Contract, but those opting to pay in lieu must continue to offer a food allowance of no less than HK$1,236 per month. After considering movements in the relevant consumer price index, the Government decided to keep this allowance unchanged.
A spokesman noted that the review incorporated feedback from employers and helper groups before arriving at a balanced outcome. The new wage level reflects a more favourable set of socio‑economic indicators compared with last year’s assessment, the Government added.
Contracts signed today or earlier at the existing wage of HK$5,100 will still be accepted by the Immigration Department, provided applications are submitted by 30th October (Friday). The arrangement is intended to give employers sufficient time to complete the required procedures.
