28th September 2026 – (Hong Kong) Hong Kong’s private home prices inched higher in August, with provisional data from the Rating and Valuation Department showing the price index at 320.5, up 0.06 per cent from July and 6.98 per cent higher across the first eight months of 2026. Despite the rebound, prices remain about 19.49 per cent below the all‑time peak of 398.1 set in September 2021, underscoring a market still working through the downcycle of recent years.
Rents continued to accelerate. The private residential rental index rose 1.64 per cent month on month to 210.3 in August, marking a fresh record and the largest single‑month increase since May 2024. The rental gauge has now advanced for ten consecutive months, with a cumulative rise of around 5.2 per cent over that stretch and a gain of roughly 4.89 per cent in the year to date, reflecting sustained leasing demand even as capital values recover more gradually.
With rents at record levels, some tenants are looking to get more back from their largest monthly bill. Rent payment platforms such as Rently, which launched in Hong Kong in July, let tenants pay by FPS or credit card and earn miles on their rent, while landlords still receive the full amount by bank transfer.
