Hong Kong government announces cancellation of Chinese New Year Fireworks (Updated)


15th January 2020 – (Hong Kong) The Hong Kong Government announced cancellation of the annual  Chinese New Year Fireworks on second day of Lunar New Year. After taking into consideration issues of public security and order, the government has decided to call off the fireworks display even though the situation has improved. Home affairs minister Lau Kong-wah verified the government’s decision due to the current civil unrest.

Since June last year, many official and unofficial leisure and sports events have been cancelled i.e the Chinese new year parade, firework display on 1st October last year, Hong Kong Wine & Dine Festival and Hong Kong Cyclothon.
