22nd November 2023 – (Hong Kong) In a recent public appearance, Hong Kong’s former sex symbol, Amy Yip, stunned netizens with her slimmed-down physique and ample bosom. The 57-year-old actress, known for her daring performances in Hong Kong’s Category III films during the 1980s and 1990s, has been out of the spotlight for quite some time but has expressed her intention to make a comeback.
Amy Yip, often referred to as the “Asian Busty Queen,” gained fame for her captivating beauty and seductive roles in Hong Kong’s Category III movies, despite her commitment to not fully exposing her body on screen. She became an iconic figure in the local film industry, representing sensuality and allure. While she has maintained a low profile in recent years, Yip made a public appearance at the 44th-anniversary event of the Movie Producers and Distributors Association of Hong Kong Limited (MPDA). She has also been spotted attending various high-profile events, with netizens eagerly sharing photos of her recent outings.
A popular entertainment blogger from mainland China recently posted two short video clips of Yip at a banquet on the social media platform Douyin (known as TikTok outside of China). The blogger commented, “Goddess Amy Yip looks so slim,” and asked the audience, “Do you still remember the Hong Kong film goddess Amy Yip?”
In the videos, Yip can be seen dressed in a sexy outfit that accentuates her slimmer figure. Despite her weight loss, her voluptuous curves remain prominent, creating a visual impact that surprised netizens.
Amy Yip, born on July 10, 1966, gained prominence through her appearances in television series during the mid-1980s. However, it was her breakthrough role in the 1990 film “Erotic Ghost Story” that propelled her to stardom. She quickly became one of the most popular actresses in Hong Kong and across Asia, thanks to her captivating performances and her distinct physical attributes, particularly her ample bosom. Although she never fully exposed her breasts on screen, she became renowned for her skilful use of camera angles, a technique that became known as the “Yip tease.” In “Erotic Ghost Story,” she did show her buttocks in one scene.
Yip retired from acting in 1997, expressing some regret that her filmography lacked memorable roles beyond the realm of erotic cinema. One exceptional movie in her career was the 1991 film “Queen of the Underworld,” in which she portrayed Sister Har, a woman who rose from the depths of society to become a celebrated figure in Hong Kong’s nightlife scene during the 1960s and 1970s.
In her personal life, Yip had a long-term relationship with orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Sammy Sek Chiu-lui, whom she met in 1992. Despite rumours of marriage and pregnancy, Yip clarified in a 2006 interview that she had no intention of getting married or having children. She found fulfilment in her food and beverage businesses in Hong Kong and Macau, which kept her occupied. Yip emphasized her contentment with a carefree lifestyle and expressed no desire to return to the demanding nature of the film industry.
In May 2018, a book detailing Yip’s career in movies and television was released in English. Tragically, her boyfriend, Dr. Sammy Sek Chiu Lui, passed away from a heart attack while travelling to the United States in November 2018.
