21st February 2024 – (Hong Kong) A Hong Kong family is seeking the public’s assistance after their 31-year-old relative, Chan Lam-wa, vanished during a trip to Taiwan. Chan, who was last in touch with his friends on 27th January, has not been heard from since, prompting his family to report the matter to the police on February 12th and plan a trip to Taiwan to search for him.

Chan, a resident of On Tin Estate in Lam Tin, left his home on January 6th, initially keeping in contact with his elder brother and friends. He had revealed plans to travel alone to Taiwan and even shared photos of himself dining in a Taiwanese izakaya. However, after 27th January, all communication ceased.

The concerned elder brother has reached out to Chan’s friends and acquaintances to gather the latest updates. According to the family, Chan had expressed intentions to visit Taipei on January 9th. Screenshots from WhatsApp conversations show that he dined in the Banqiao District of New Taipei City on 16th January and had plans to attend a basketball game featuring Jeremy Lin at the Xinzhuang Gymnasium on 21st January.

The family’s last contact with Chan was on 24th January, but he did reach out to a friend three days later without disclosing his whereabouts. It is understood that Chan had an arrangement to attend the Taiwan Million Dollar Poker Tournament with a friend who, unfortunately, did not show up.

After an agonising period of silence, Chan’s brother filed a missing person report at the Sau Mau Ping police station. The brother had previously inquired at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Central Plaza, where he confirmed Chan had entered Taiwan.

The family, driven by desperation and hope, is set to travel to Taiwan on 22nd February to file a report and further their search for Chan. The last known location of Chan was in the Banqiao District, specifically Dongmen Street, where he was seen having breakfast near Grace Hotel.

With the family scheduled to fly to Taiwan on Friday to give their statements, the search has become increasingly urgent. The last contact with Chan was recorded at 8.55pm on 27th January.

Chan Lam-wa is described as 183cm tall, and his disappearance has left a significant void in the lives of his loved ones. The family is issuing a plea for anyone with information to come forward and provide any updates that could assist in locating him.
