20th August 2026 – (Hong Kong) Hong Kong Disneyland Resort has set out fresh details of its Pixar and Marvel expansions after the plans were showcased at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in Anaheim, California, from 14th to 16th August.
In Toy Story Land, a new theatre will host a Pixar-themed theatrical spectacular due in the first half of 2027. The production is being developed with Pixar Animation Studios and Industrial Light & Magic, blending film-grade visual effects with live staging. Guests will meet Woody, Jessie, Buzz Lightyear, Rex and other familiar toys as the story explores how friendships are built and celebrated over time.
At the centre of the exclusive show is Poppy, an original Pixar character created for Hong Kong Disneyland. The sweet, shy plush toy travels from Hong Kong to Andy’s neighbourhood with her owner, Aria. When nervous or overwhelmed, Poppy curls into a ball. Aria’s keepsakes, including Chinese chess, a rattle drum and egg tarts, will shape the backyard setting and nod to local childhood memories.
The theatre piece will guide audiences through Pixar worlds from Toy Story, Monsters, Inc., Cars, The Incredibles and Inside Out. Two original songs are being written by Disney Live Entertainment teams in Hong Kong and the United States, including Bloom, a bright pop anthem about new friendships. Michael Serna, executive creative director of Disney Live Entertainment, said guests would experience an emotional adventure about how meaningful friendships are built, nurtured and celebrated over time.
Separately, Tomorrowland’s multi-year Marvel expansion will add a landmark pavilion at Stark Expo bearing the Avengers logo and reshaping the skyline. Inside, the Avengers Research Testing Labs will house a new drop-tower thrill attraction. Stark Industries and other brilliant minds, including Peter Parker, better known as Spider-Man, develop technology against future threats, only for the power to draw evil forces and send guests into action alongside Spider-Man and heroes linked to Wakanda, Asgard and beyond.
The expanded zone will also introduce a Quinjet landing platform where guests can meet Marvel superheroes through the day, bringing ride, entertainment and shopping into one Marvel destination. An opening date for the Marvel thrill attraction has not yet been announced, while the Pixar show is locked for the first half of 2027 as the park continues to push experiences billed as exclusive to Hong Kong.
